Forecast mortality and planting rates
I am currently struggling to understand the factors at play with the forecast tool on i-tree eco. When I forecast my urban forest inventory over a 10 year timeframe with my specified mortality rates, There is about 35 mortalities per year. In the hope of maintaining the same population over time, I make the annual trees planted (35/year) equal to the annual mortality experience in the prior scenario (same mortality rates). However, the population after 10 years drops dramatically. In order to maintain the same population, the forecasting tool says I need to plant 155 trees per year to offset the mortality and maintain the same population. Why must I plant 155 trees/year to offset the 35tree/year mortality?

Re: Forecast mortality and planting rates
Hi Isaac,
There are some parameter settings that could lead to those results but it is difficult to say without seeing your project. Would you mind creating a packed project from the "File" menu in Eco? Then send the .zip file that is created to our support email address, info@itreetools.org. We can take a closer look and help evaluate what is going on.
Thanks,
Jason
