Stormwater Interception by Species

Post by jamerault »

Hi all,

I wanted to see the possible differences in Rainfall Interception by simulating the planting of different street tree species. My inventory has 79000 trees and about 150 species. Some intercept rain better than others. I replaced all trees with the species with the best performance and got unexpected results. There was little/no change in the Stormwater benefit with this single "high performance" tree planted all over than there was with the multi-species inventory. All other variables were maintained exactly the same.

Any thoughts about what is going on here?

Without knowing anything about the STRATUM inputs you are working with, this is a difficult question to answer. The three user inputs that rainfall interception depends on are climate zone, species and dbh. If you can share more information about your project, we would have a better chance in helping you figure out what is going on with the results of your hypothetical inventory. Perhaps you could post the actual STRATUM-generated reports to illustrate your question.
