Interpretation of the i-Tree Eco Report

Post by gunjan_sharma »

The i-Tree Eco report generated mentions that the number of trees is 263,200 and tree cover is 44.1%, and it states, "The estimate of tree cover is derived from user estimations of percent tree cover over plots and extrapolated to the whole study area." I just wanted to confirm that, since my study area consists of parks and reserves only, and all the i-Tree Eco plots belong to this single strata, the above estimates apply to parks and reserves within the city, not the entire city itself.

The estimate of canopy cover will apply to the area you generated your random plots within. That estimate does rely on the fact that the plot selection was truly random. Any violations of that assumption will impact your results.
If you are interested in accurate estimates of tree canopy cover the i-Tree Canopy tool will provide much more robust estimates.
