Question about UFORE

Post by crlema » Mon Feb 05, 2007 8:11 am

Greetings, my name is Cristian Lema and I am of Santiago of Chile.
First that everything I think that UFORE is a great tool that helps
the management of the urban forests. I want to know if model UFORE can
be used to determine the amount of polluting agents as CO2, NOx, MP
10, etc, that will be captured or stored by an urban forest that is
not yet implemented that is to say, this project is a reforestation
of a great Park in Santiago of Chile. (O'higgins Park). For this
project the variables are known as: amount of trees that will be
planted, types of trees, the size of the area that will be reforested.
etc. Nowadays, I am making my practice work in the municipality of
Santiago and I need to investigate or to calculate the amount of
polluting agents this project can capture or help to remove of
environment. I can use UFORE for this intention?

Sorry, but my english in not really good.

beforehand, Thanks for its aid.

Hi Cristian,

The easiest thing for you to do is to use this link to calculate the pollution effect online:

http://www.fs.fed.us/ne/syracuse/Tools/ ... 9%2C+Chile

It is a simple program that just needs area and percent cover. However, the dollar values are based on US externality values for damage to health and environment (it would be better to use local values). You also might consult the technical paper by Francisco Escobeda. 2005. Vegetacion urbana como factor de descontaminacion. Chile Forestal (313): 46-49. CONAF, Santiago, Chile."

Hope this helps you--thanks for your interest in i-Tree!

Hola Cristian

Ya se establecieron estas cantidades para Santiago. El link que te han indicado te sirve para calcular las cantidades y Tambien el articulo en Chile Forestal te dara un buen resumen sobre el proyecto y sus resultados.

Si me escribes te puedo enviar un articulo que recen salio en el Journal of Environmental management, "Analyzing the cost effectiveness of Santiago, Chile's policy of using urban forests to improve air quality". Tambien puedo enviarte otro "The socioeconomics and management of Santiago de Chile's public urban forests, Urban Forestry and Urban Greening 4 (2006), pp. 105–114".

Saludos,

Francisco
