Method Used to Calculate Aesthetic Value in Streets

Post by DHagemann » Wed Apr 04, 2012 3:48 pm

I am wondering what the method used for calculating aesthetic benefits of trees is. I have found a fair bit of research on how to quantify the benefits on property value but what I am having trouble finding information on is how Streets actually applies the information and what research, specifically, is being referenced. If anyone could point me in the direction of this information I would greatly appreciate the help.

Cheers!

The best place to look for information on methodology used in i-Tree Streets is the USFS Community Tree Guides. The USFS Community Tree Guides can be accessed from the Resources - Archives page http://www.itreetools.org/resources/archives.php under the i-Tree Streets Reference City Tree Guides tab.

Each climate region has a specific guide but the aesthetic benefit methods are common using regional housing values. The following link is to a PDF of the Lower Midwest Guide Appendix3 which discusses aesthetic benefits methods on page 109 & 110. http://www.itreetools.org/streets/resou ... endix3.pdf

The link at the bottom of the PDF page is to the Forest Service site where the complete set of Guides can be accessed if you want to explore the original research cited.
