Which data fields are most useful to capture

Post by mgh »

We are planning to do a street tree inventory for our city, and would like to use STRATUM once we are done. We will be entering the data into a GIS, and I'm interested in which of the fields besides TreeId, SpCode and DBH would be the most useful to capture? Any hints on how best to set up our GIS layer so that we can import the data into STRATUM once it is complete?

Hi mgh,

1) When using STRATUM, tree condition will provide you with several useful reports, but there is really no universal answer to your first question, since what you collect will depend on your resources and goals. The ISA’s Arborist News had two recent articles on Inventories that might help you with these decisions:

2) STRATUM is not GIS compatible, since it contains no location information.

Hope this helps.
