tree class separation

Post by Baharak » Sun Jun 28, 2020 10:31 am

hi
my study area is a small town and consists of many orchards. is it logical to separate the agricultural trees from other types? does this reduce the accuracy? or you recommend all types of trees and shrubs to be classified in one class?

Hi,

I think it depends on the goal of your project. Do you want to compare canopy and benefits between orchard areas and non-orchard areas? i-Tree Canopy does not calculate differences between canopy from orchard trees and non-orchard trees. In the Regional Settings there is an option to choose if your project is on urban land or rural land. Some research indicates that trees growing on urban land will have smaller canopies compared to those on rural land, therefore i-Tree Canopy adjusts for this and the air pollution values tend to be slightly less when users set their Canopy projects up to indicate that the project is in a urban land.
