What does maintenance released mean in a Streets CO2 report?

Post by azelaya » Wed Apr 10, 2013 8:32 am

The Streets Annual CO2 benefit report accounts for impacts involved in caring for and maintaining a street tree population which are reported under the Maintenance Release column. For example, the act of pruning a tree would generally involve driving to a site and perhaps using some equipment that runs on fossil fuels. So this release of carbon due to maintaining healthy and safe street tree populations is included in the calculations. The actual maintenance outputs are based on regional averages. This topic is further discussed in the city tree guides. The USFS Community Tree Guides can be accessed from the Resources - Archives page http://www.itreetools.org/resources/archives.php under the i-Tree Streets Reference City Tree Guides tab
