Forecast mortality and planting rates

Post by isaacberth » Wed Feb 02, 2022 11:28 am

Hello,

I am having issues understanding the results produced by my itree eco forecast tool. When I forecast my inventory over 10 years, there is a total of 430 trees that die. In order to maintain the same number of trees over the 10 year timeframe, I tell the program to plant 43trees/year. For some unknown reason, the 43 trees to plant per year is not nearly enough to maintain the same number of trees. Instead I am required to plant 155trees/year in order to maintain the same population over the 10 year forecast. All variables remain the same between the two scenarios, the only change made is to the annual planting rate. How come this is happening?
