i-Tree eco Forecast validate

Post by dorien.nooitgedagt » Wed Jun 26, 2019 9:26 am

Since when is i-Tree Eco forecast applicable? (what year?)
And are there projects were Forecast has been run and now checked with i-Tree Eco, to validate i-Tree Forecast?

I hope someone has an answer

Kind regards from the Netherlands,

Thank you for your question.
The Forecasting module within i-Tree Eco was first released in 2015 the with advent of the v6 Eco application. I don't know of anyone who has done any testing on the model accuracy. However, anyone could do their own tests using historical data or any data sets measured at two points in time. Additionally, many of the model controls like frost free length and mortality rates are wholly at the discretion of the user so model accuracy depends, at least in part, on the parameters users provide.
If you are interested in more detailed Forecast methods please email us at info@itreetools.org. We are working on a large document titled "Understanding i-Tree" that should be published once it completes Forest Service review. In the meantime, we could share a draft of the section covering Forecast methods.
