Eco has been used to assess street trees and non-urban areas. However, the i-Tree Streets (STRATUM) model is specifically designed to analyze street tree populations and should be used to assess this resource in the United States.
Some users also select to use the i-Tree Eco complete inventory option for assessing individual street trees or park trees but there are model limitations to using this option.
As Eco is designed to calculate tree effects based on an area sample, the model can be used for non-urban areas of any size. One limitation of using the model outside of urban areas is that some local input data sets (e.g., pollution and weather data) are more limited outside of urban areas. Also, there is no replacement value generally associated with such trees.
