VOC emissions

Post by hdelaconcha » Fri Jul 28, 2017 5:12 pm

I am analyzing and discussing the results for the Merida Project and wonder if the VOC emission production is considered in the Net Carbon secuestration also? especially since coconuts apparently are a heavy Isoprene producer so as citrus auritantemum and one Acacia species are heavy Monoterpene producers.

Thanks

No. the VOC outputs are not considered in net carbon sequestration estimates. The Eco model VOC estimates are determined in a separate modeling module. A description of that process and variables considered is available in the following document https://www.itreetools.org/eco/resource ... s_V1.0.pdf .

Regarding net carbon sequestration, the gross carbon sequestration is the total carbon taken in by the trees during the year while the net carbon sequestration subtracts out carbon that is given off when trees die and decay, including decay of dead branches. The Eco model considers the health of your trees based on the percent dieback or crown condition entry when estimating how much decay and mortality you may have for your tree or forest resource.

The method for estimating gross and net carbon sequestration amounts come from the following two documents, http://www.itreetools.org/eco/resources ... ak_001.pdf, see section 2.3 and http://www.itreetools.org/eco/resources ... b_2002.pdf, section 2.4.
