Re: Attempting to use i-Tree Design as part of a municipal tree ordinance
Hi Aaron, I could see i-Tree Design being challenging for some users. As an alternative you could try MyTree ( https://mytree.itreetools.org/#/ ) which is even simpler to use. You could also try to putting together some sort of matrix or table of common species and their relative numbers needed usin...

Re: Forecast and individual tree outputs
Thanks for the question. i-Tree Forecast is actually a cohort model not an individual tree model which is why it doesn't generate the exact output you are looking for. That being said, you may have some options. One option is to use the "Cohort data output" option when you run Forecast. Th...

Re: Import data from Excel to Eco v6.0 in a plot-based sample project?
Yes this is still the case. Given our limited staff and development time I don't believe this will be implemented in the near future without a dedicated funding source for this specific feature. Depending on what results you are interested in and your desired accuracy you could always import your da...

Re: Strata question
This depends on the goals of your project. If you keep them as separate strata in a single project you will have all of your data and results collected in one place. You will also notice that many of the reports have breakdowns by strata which would allow you to compare the different properties. How...

Re: Energy savings
The Energy savings in i-Tree Eco will work without the crown measurements. However, you do need to enable the "Energy (building interactions) option under "Data Collection Options" during project set up and you do need to collect measurements of the distance and direction to residenti...
Re: Eco map
Thanks for the question, it is a good one. At the moment only results, not unprocessed data, can be mapped within the i-Tree Eco application. After you have submitted your data for processing and retrieved your results please follow these steps to view your data on a map in i-Tree Eco. 1. Go to the ...

Re: Species not included in Species list
Thanks for the question. The i-Tree Eco list currently includes more than 8,000 species, https://www.itreetools.org/documents/488/EcoSpeciesList_20July2018_esxmUKb.xlsx . It has pretty good coverage for most species in the US but may be missing some international species and some tropical species. I...

Re: how to calculate tree benefit zone?
Thanks for your question. The i-Tree energy methods drive most of those benefits zone maps and are explained in broad strokes here, http://www.itreetools.org/streets/resources/Streets_CTG/PSW_GTR202_Northeast_CTG.pdf (see around page 5 for the energy overview) and this is one of the more specific pa...

Re: Importing/Reconciling csv with addresses geocoded in Eco 6
Unfortunately, we do not have a plot-based importer at this time. You could attempt to open the .ieco project file using MS Access, locating the appropriate table, and pasting in your full columns of location information at once. This is not a supported or tested method as it is very easy to corrupt...

Re: i-Tree eco Forecast validate
Thank you for your question. The Forecasting module within i-Tree Eco was first released in 2015 the with advent of the v6 Eco application. I don't know of anyone who has done any testing on the model accuracy. However, anyone could do their own tests using historical data or any data sets measured ...

Re: Reference for method to estimate tree count
Dead trees would be included and multi-stem trees are counted as a single tree. The reasoning with including standing dead trees is that they are still storing carbon and therefore still providing some benefit. As far as replicating the software exactly you will want to make sure you are using the e...

Re: Reference for method to estimate tree count
Thanks for the question. The basic method that i-Tree Eco uses is stratified random sampling. I am not sure what data you have so it is difficult to describe the calculations you would need to perform. Also, I am not sure of the exact details of the London sample design as it is a little atypical wi...

Re: Tracking phenology data for urban trees?
Hi thanks for your question. I am not sure which i-Tree tool you are considering using. The only one that will allow you to collect coordinate data would be the mobile data collection option of i-Tree Eco. However, i-Tree Eco is not intended to be an all purpose data collection tool. i-Tree Eco is m...

Re: Importing/Reconciling csv with addresses geocoded in Eco 6
i-Tree Eco holds data in an underlying relational database rather than .csv tables. The most straightforward method to get your coordinate data into i-Tree Eco may be to create an empty project and import your .csv, assuming that your .csv contains all of your Eco data. This approach will only work ...
