Thanks for commenting on that error and spelling out the correct approach. Old posts never die, I guess... As I said earlier, I have long found this an intriguing question. My method was aimed for a specific situation: more than one stem originating from the same root system, where the stems are bel...

How to collect i-Tree Streets data on Android platform
I created a simple data collection form for any device running the Android platform. This form is very simple in design ATM: no device info, no timestamps, no required fields, no logic, no images, no backend server setup. The objective here is to allow individuals (and perhaps even the i-Tree Team?)...

Agreed. Android-based phones have been matching iPhones in sales for almost a year now, I believe, and high-quality Palm devices are again available. it would not seem to me like a good investment of iTree time and money to develop for a single mobile platform. That said, it might be interesting to ...

Al or another of the i-Tree staff will have to give you details on this, since I do not have the current Manual available. Basically, you import the spreadsheet into Access, then import Access into Streets. A detailed description used to be in the Streets Appendix. Biggest 2 tricks: 1) make sure you...

Re: PDA for use with Streets
Method to import Excel spreadsheet into Streets is laid out in the Users Manual, last I looked.AGH wrote:What is the standard method for importing the raw data file into Streets without using the Streets PDA Transfer opton under tools?

Just want to point out the you are not obligated to use the i-Tree PDA app to collect field data, and thus are not limited to Windows OS PDAs. For instance: a Palm OS PDA now made by Aceeca is available for under USD 200, in addition to a ruggedized version for twice that if you are using it profess...

I hope this clarifies things for you. Thanks, but I was not confused about the source of the problem. In the OP I was concerned with the possibility of more specific feedback , as I tried to indicate by starting the title of the post with that word. I suggested it would help the user if the problem...

Feedback during import with Streets
Having wasted a bunch of time recently trying to import data that had some problems way out of the range I was looking at, I would like to suggest that the feedback process provide better detail while inventory data are being imported. I guess it would depend on how the import checking is written. [...

Beating this horse...
There is an excellent introduction to GIS using Quantum GIS available:
A Gentle introduction to GIS
Might be pretty handy for anyone considering a low-cost i-Tree workshop on this technical topic.

Thanks, Scott--that's kind of what I thought. And it sounds like a reasonable position. This question did make me snoop around a bit, and I was surprised to see that some bamboos are well positioned for carbon sequestration. Look at this , for example: Bamboo has several advantages over tree species...
