Hourly pollution data for Italy
Hello, The Forest Service has pollution data that was submitted for a UFORE study in Forli, Italy from 2004 which is a complete data set and is better to work with than partial data. You can send along the data that you have mentioned when you are ready to submit your entire project and the Forest S...

No hourly pollution data
Hello, You can still obtain some benefit information of the tree resource for the commercial/industrial park such as carbon storage, carbon sequestration, species composition, leaf area and tree biomass. However, the lack of pollution data would not allow for UFORE analysis of air pollution removal....

UFORE desktop question
Hello Eric, I was just in Syracuse last week and was able to look under the hood of the UFORE engine to see how data is processed. It is a rather complex process using the current system with much data and code manipulation and time spent resolving data integrity issues. Remember UFORE data is recei...

Getting started
Hello, No, you do not have to be affiliated with a government agency or academic institution to obtain or use the i-Tree tools. You can request a copy of the CD from the i-Tree website at www.itreetools.org . Although the i-Tree tools are often used by municipalities, they are adaptable to many scal...

i-Tree reporting functionality for pest applications
Several communities have been using both UFORE and STRATUM as a management tool to prepare for emerald ash borer. Although benefits and values are calculated for individual species, several communities have chosen to run STRATUM with and without ash by manually removing all ash from their database s...

Importing data from spreadsheets into UFORE shell database
This suggestion was received from Eunice A. in Pennsylvania It would be helpful if there was a way to import data collected manually which is properly formatted in Excel spreadsheets into the UFORE shell input database. We have multiple people who have manually collected UFORE data in several parks....

i-Tree version 3.0 distribution question
Hello, i-Tree version 3.0 will not be sent out automatically as there is not a good mechanism to know who is actually using i-Tree once the CD is shipped. The release will coincide with an announcement in the i-Tree newsletter and also on the i-Tree website www.itreetools.org. Therefore, If you rece...

STRATUM error message
Yes, you are correct about your Street Segments as they must be positive integers. Let us know if you are still having problems after adjusting the values. Al

Street segment
Street segments in STRATUM are used in the model to extrapolate data over the entire population of your city/project. The number of street segments that you inventory out of the total segments in the study area will be also be used to calculate standard error. Therefore, it does influence your outco...

Street segment
Hello,
The street segment needs to be a positive integer. As you mentioned, zero is used for full inventories. You also mentioned that you are working with a random sample. if Tiger/line files were used to create the sample inventory, the Tiger line TLID is the street segment.

Tree Growth
I passed your question on to the Technical Services Librarian at The Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL to see if there was something with more depth than what I was finding. However, I guess the recognized definition probably depends upon the source. Here are a few examples that were passed along from t...

Park Inventory
Hello, You seem to have a grasp of some of the strengths and limitations of STRATUM and UFORE. Yes, you are correct that STRATUM was designed for street tree applications and that may be the limiting factor as to what would be the best tool to use in your application. The STRATUM model may not be re...

Management Zones
Here is another idea that you may want to consider. I have found that using "risk" as a criterion has helped me in determining management zones when working with inventories in park settings. This may be somewhat similar to a university campus especially if you have many land types or uses...

carbon calculation
Hello, I'm not sure if you are interested in the carbon calculation methods for a specific application. So, I would suggest starting with looking over pages 8 & 9 of the UFORE methods paper http://www.itreetools.org/resource_learning_center/reports/ufore_methods.pdf , which discusses the carbon ...

Changing common names in STRATUM reports
Follow-up information on issue: The problem was identified after reviewing the user’s files associated with the STRATUM project. There were (2) codes being used to identify one species in the inventory. MA2-apple and MAHA-crabapple golden harvest were both used in the inventory to identify common cr...
