Re: Queries about survey methods
Hello, I am currently engaged in an i-Tree Eco project in New Zealand, focusing on sample plot surveys and data collection within parks. I have a few questions regarding our methodology: 1. Regarding the measurement of Diameter at Breast Height (dbh), is it permissible to measure at heights other t...

Re: species reference (3D) crown shape
i-Tree Eco is not directly using crown shapes or calculating crown volumes. You should evaluate the percent missing against the typical shape for a given species. For example a Ginkgo tree often has very open crown so even though there are gaps in the crown it is typical for that species and therefo...

Re: Joining plot-based inventary with single trees inventory
Hi Iulia, Within i-Tree Eco there is not a way to create a project that can handle both plot-based and single tree data. The underlying database structure for the two project types (called plot sample and complete inventory in Eco) are very different and incompatible. The easiest way forward for you...

Re: Avoided Runoff = 0.0 for each tree.
Hi Monika, This typically happens when the selected weather station is not working correctly and reports zero incoming precipitation for the selected year. You can return to Project Configuration > Project Definition > Location and try selecting a different weather station and/or weather year to fin...

Re: How to manage unknown data
Hi, Unfortunately, there isn't a way to provide partial data for trees. If you choose to collect a certain field variable it needs to be provided for all trees. In the case of crown health, when users choose not collect that field variable at all i-Tree Eco uses a default value of 13% dieback (87% c...

Re: Adjusting Pollution Benefit Prices
Hi Vincent, You are correct as far as the impacts of the "urban" checkbox. It only impacts how those two benefit amounts are calculated. I'd suggest reviewing our Understanding i-Tree document for more details on the monetary value methods. For stormwater the monetary values are based on r...

Re: Adjusting Pollution Benefit Prices
Hi Vincent, Here is some text from our modeler on the impact of the urban toggle on avoided runoff. Average impervious cover is 25.5% for the urban areas across the 50 US States, while 1.5% for the rural areas in the lower 48 States2). Assuming the only urban area is assessed using i-Tree Eco, 25.5%...

Re: Adjusting Pollution Benefit Prices
Hi Vincent, Users don't currently have the ability to set their own pollution removal monetary valuations. This is planned for a future update. For the time being, the easiest workaround is to export something like the "Benefits and costs > Pollution Removal by trees and shrubs > Monthly Remova...

Re: Low results in Eco
Hi Anne-Sophie, The avoided run off numbers are very sensitive to the incoming rainfall. It is likely that the weather station you are using does not have accurate or complete rainfall measurements for the selected year. You can check the amount of incoming rainfall of your selected station and year...

Re: i-Tree Eco workflow?
That is mostly correct. The i-Tree Eco application on your desktop also allows for management of mobile data collection, it has many different reporting features and capabilities, and it includes a Forecasting module for projecting benefits from your tree population over time. Also, when you retriev...

Re: How does i-Tree Eco estimate total population of trees?
Hi, i-Tree Eco is using standard stratified random sampling statistics. Basically, it is calculating the average number of trees per unit area on your measured plots then multiplying that by that total project area you entered in the Project & Strata Area table. If you want a summary of the actu...

Re: Avoided Runoff
Hi Hannses, If you are doing a plot-based project the tool is essentially determining the average per-hectare avoided runoff from just the trees on your measured plots and then applying that to the total study area you enter in the project & strata area table. For more details on how the hydrolo...

Re: Import data from Excel to Eco v6.0 in a plot-based sample project?
UPDATE: As of version 6.0.32 it is now possible to import plot data into i-Tree Eco. The process is largely the same as importing complete inventory data but you most import a spreadsheet with your plot data and a separate spreadsheet with your tree data. Each tree record must have a plot number fo...

Re: Eco v6 crashed or stopped working - Access Database Engine Issues
UPDATE: This issue should be mostly resolved in the latest version of i-Tree Eco (v6.0.32 or higher). To avoid issues with outdated installations we recommend performing a complete uninstall of the i-Tree tools before downloading and installing the latest version. You can request a download link by...

Re: Error message after importing data to Eco v6
As a first step please try updating your software. You can check for updates by clicking on the Software update button under the Support tab within i-Tree Eco. If that does not resolve the issue please pack your project and send it to us at the i-Tree support email, info@itreetools.org, so that we c...
