How does Streets estimate aesthetic value of trees?

The values that appear in the results table, “Aesthetic/Other Benefits of Public Trees by Species”, is meant to capture the effect of trees on property values. The method the i-Tree Streets model uses to determine aesthetic value is based on a study by Anderson and Cordell (1988), "Influence of tree...

How many street segments should I sample in each zone?

The number of street segments that can or should be measured varies based on many factors. These fact include, available time and resources, length of street segments, number of trees on each segment, and the variability between segments. However, for statistical reasons when can offer a few rules o...

Street Species and variables

To create a list of all distinct species across climate zones you can combine each worksheet into a single worksheet by copying and pasting records at the bottom of your current species list. Then use a pivot table to summarize by species in Excel. I am not sure I understand your second question. Al...

Thanks for the link.

I think on this front the more options the better. No matter what method you ultimately choose you should make sure you're comfortable with how it works and its limitations before you employ it in a project.

Creating circular areas for use in Canopy

This is not currently possible within i-Tree canopy. However, depending on what resources you have available, it should be relatively simple in GIS. In Esri's ArcGIS or the free QGIS you could create points and then just buffer those points with a 2 mile buffer. A buffer around a point should be cir...
