Re: Canadian Applicability

Thanks for the question. The benefit multipliers per unit area of tree canopy used in i-Tree Canopy are based wholly on on US data. The application of these multipliers in Canada is the same as for all other countries outside the US. The multipliers are based on various US data sources including a n...

Re: Info on KML export ?

Hi Mary, Thanks for the question. We do not have any documentation or videos on the KML export function at the moment. It is still in beta and there are likely to be changes. Any documentation would quickly be out of date. There are really two options for where you can export to KML: You can export ...

Re: Tree canopy i-TreeEco

Tree canopy cover percentage is calculated differently for plot-based i-Tree Eco projects versus complete inventories. For plot-based projects users must choose to record the percent canopy cover on each plot. The canopy cover percentage for a project is then the average of the cover across all plot...

Re: uploading points into Canopy- benefit estimations

Hi Drew, I can see how that would be a little confusing. It would probably help if the units were the same for both the monetary and hydrology benefit multipliers. For the benefit amounts the units area "gallons of avoided runoff/yd² of canopy/yr". The idea is that you would then take those estimate...

Re: How convert canopy point to surface area?

Thanks for the question. The tool is not converting individual points to area but it is converting the percentages. If 25% of your sample points are classified as tree canopy then the sampling assumption is that 25% of the area is tree canopy. If the total area within your boundary of interest is 20...

Re: uploading points into Canopy- benefit estimations

Hi Drew, You can find the relevant documentation for those removal rates in our archives, https://www.itreetools.org/support/resources-overview/i-tree-methods-and-files . These are probably the two you will be most interested in: Canopy air pollutant removal and monetary value model descriptions - T...

Re: Tree Canopy

I think I misunderstood what you are trying to do. i-Tree Canopy is used to estimate tree canopy cover based on randomly generated, user interpreted points. It does not use individual tree data. If you have individual tree data you can import that into i-Tree Eco. i-Tree Eco is not a spatially expli...

Re: Tree Canopy

Hi and thanks for the question. I think some of the confusion here is happening because there are multiple tools in the i-Tree Suite. The main tool in the download package is i-Tree Eco. i-Tree Eco is based on measuring individual trees or plots in the field. I believe you might be interested in i-T...

Re: uploading points into Canopy- benefit estimations

Hi Drew, There is no way to upload point data into i-Tree Canopy. However, you can use the benefit multipliers in i-Tree canopy and apply them to any estimated areas of tree cover outside of Canopy. You can get to these multipliers by creating a new project or selecting "Project">"Configuration">"Re...

Re: Statistical testing to see if the % cover assessed for two periods are different

This is a great question. The Forest Service is working on a spreadsheet that will help users with these types of comparisons but it likely won't be posted on the i-Tree website until sometime this summer. The statistical test the the US Forest Service uses for these types of comparisons in the McNe...

Re: pollution datasets

Thanks for the question. When creating a project a user can select from any of the available years and nearby stations. If the project has already been created and the pollution data is not adequate a user can always change their selection of pollution year and monitoring station. This change can be...

Re: using gis and lidar data

Thanks for the question. The only work that I have seen to estimate i-Tree measurements from LIDAR data has been from Laurie Stott at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, https://www.esf.edu/itree/documents/StottAssessing-2019iTree_000.pdf . I think there is lots of work on extracting indiv...

Re: Local benefit prices (Energy, building costs)

Hi Lulia, i-Tree Does use mixes of building vintages based on climate zones. These mixes of building vintages are what is used in the US. You can find the table showing the mapping of European countries to US Climate Zones here, https://www.itreetools.org/documents/568/EuropeClimateRegions.xlsx . Yo...

Re: Local benefit prices (Energy, building costs)

Hi Lulia, Thanks for your questions. Many of these can be addressed with the documents in our archives, Question 1: The i-Tree energy models were created for residential structures. The monetary valuations and avoided emissions account for regionally average energy mixes and prices. In general we en...

Re: i-Tree overwriting Tree ID field

Thanks for the question. The tree ID field in Eco is actually used by the program to keep track of trees and therefore has some specific database related requirements including sequential numbering. For users that have their own ID field we recently added the "User Tree ID" field. You can turn on th...
